Welcome to Ellie's
Daylilies!!
We are located at 277 Bangor Road in Central Maine between Augusta and
Bangor on Route 202/9 in Unity.
Our mission is to keep one step behind the modern day hybridizer,
offering up-to-date cultivars at affordable prices while continuing to
provide older varieties for the classic gardener. Our commitment is to
sell healthy plants to the satisfaction of our customers.
We have visited several of the best
hybridizers in Florida and have gleaned from each of them, enabling us
to teach others about this unique plant. We are members of the
American Hemerocallis Society, the Maine Daylily Society, and the
Southern Maine Daylily and Hosta Society. All of
our plants for sale have been grown on our property in raised beds. We
dig, label, and bag (or pot) each plant for transporting.
We open for business May 1 through August 30. Peak bloom begins about
the middle of July. It is advisable to call before making a trip to be
sure I will be here to greet you. We provide cold water and a gazebo
to sit and look at pictures of the daylilies for those who can't wait
for blooming season. We also have a shelter for garden clubs and other
visitors in case of rain.
Each plant we
sell was wintered here in our own garden to assure the hardiness to
zone 4. Generally, the foliage is either dormant or semi-evergreen.
However, some evergreens that have proven hardy for us are on our
plant list. To date, we grow 625 varieties. We are licensed and state
inspected assuring no rust in our Maine gardens.
